Can you smoke marijuana at work in Florida with a medical marijuana license?
In this video I examine what the state and federal laws have to say about medical marijuana at work, and how it’s shaking out in the workplace.
Important stuff folks, because you may unknowingly find yourself in violation of the law, without a job, etc… For something you thought was innocent.
You may need medical marijuana for a disability or illness, and you are licensed – but what happens when your employer drug tests and your results are positive.
We see this frequently. If you find yourself in a workplace accident for example, and test positive, you may be surprised at what your employer can do to you.
Look folks, the laws are a jumble and a mess right now about the issue. Things are changing legally speaking, but the employment laws haven’t caught up yet.
BUT…
For now – know that if an incident happens at work and you get test positive for marijuana – even if you are legally prescribed to use it… You can be fired.
I don’t foresee this being the case in the future, and things will become more accomodating – likely treating marijuana much like alcohol use – but until the rules change, know the risks and protect yourself.
